How To Preserve Your RVLock Handle’s Battery Life

Convenience and security go hand in hand in the RV world. A Keyless RVLock Handle not only simplifies access to your home-on-wheels but also enhances your safety. However, like any electronic device, an RVLock handle’s battery life requires attention to ensure uninterrupted functionality. Let’s dive into the essential tips and tricks to help you preserve the battery life of your RVLock handle, that way you can enjoy seamless entry on your journeys.

Choose High-Quality Batteries:

High-quality alkaline batteries is what we here at RVLock specifically recommend. Cheaper alternatives might seem tempting, but investing in reliable batteries will provide longer-lasting power and overall better performance. We recommend both Duracell and Energizer brands.

Timing Is Everything:

Set a recurring reminder on your calendar or smartphone to change the batteries at regular intervals. We recommend every 6 months if you are full-time or around 1 year otherwise. This proactive approach helps you stay ahead of potential battery depletion and prevents any last-minute surprises or lock-outs. (We recommend always keeping a pair of keys outside of your rig so you always have access to your home on wheels).

RVLock Handle Awareness:

If you’re hearing unique chimes from your RVLock handle it probably means it’s about time to swap out your batteries. Your lock will give you warning sounds when the battery is low. Educate everyone in your RV about the proper usage of the handle. Make sure they fully close the door before engaging your Keyless RVLock handle. This prevents the lock from engaging with additional force, which can lead to faster battery drain.

Keep Batteries Dry and Clean:

Moisture and dirt can compromise battery performance. Ensure that the battery compartment is clean and free from any debris before replacing batteries. If your RVLock is exposed to intense weather elements, consider removing your batteries when your RVLock isn’t in use to prevent battery corrosion.

Keyed Backup:

Like we mentioned earlier, keeping a physical key outside of your rig can be a lifesaver. Ensuring you always have access to your RV is a necessity. It is important to always be prepared in case your batteries unexpectedly die or an emergency occurs. If you have questions about your lock you can always contact our customer service at Support@RVLock.com and if you need additional information view our Contact Us Page.

Store Spare Batteries:

While you're on the road, it's a good idea to carry spare batteries in your RV. This way, you're prepared for any unexpected battery replacements without having to search for them in unfamiliar locations.

Off-Season Battery Care:

If you store your RV during the off-season, consider removing the batteries from your RVLock handle and storing them separately. Extreme temperatures can affect battery life and cause corrosion, so storing batteries indoors in a temperature-controlled environment is ideal. If indoor rig storage isn’t an option, simply remove the batteries from your RVLock handle.

A Keyless RVLock Handle is a valuable asset that enhances the security and convenience of your RV lifestyle. By adopting these battery-preserving practices, you can ensure your RVLock handle is always ready to protect your home-on-wheels. Remember, a little attention to battery care goes a long way in preserving your peace of mind and keeping your RV adventures hassle-free.

See you on the road!

Great info, thank you!

How well do the locks work with rechargeable batteries? Would 1.2v nimh batteries work ok or would you recommend 1.5v lithium rechargeable batteries?

Great article! Use the best batteries and change out on regular basis and depending on your use..

Use Lithium batteries in cold climates, they handle the cold temperatures better than alkaline.

When installing the batteries, would a little dab of dielectric grease keep the battery contacts from corrosion?
